The final point total was the highest amassed by any team in the Championship meet in the history of the JRAC (you guys exceeded your last year's total by 11.5 points). The outstanding team effort was a result of all of your incredible individual swims. At the meet we recorded an unprecedented 208 new best times as well as 169 improved a category swims.
We also had two league records set at the Championship meet. Jordan Arencibia broke his own Intermediate Boys 100 meter breaststroke record. And the Medley Relay Team of Lauren Hyslop (back), Stuart Ferguson (breast), Jordan Arencibia (fly), and Anna Wilson (free), broke the Intermediate 200 meter mixed medley relay record set early this year by Burkwood.
We had several swimmers achieve triple and quadruple
winner status!
A special congratulations goes to the following swimmers
for these performances.

Wow that is one long list of great swims! But even
more important than these achievements in the pool was the fact
that SOUTHAMPTON was the recipient of the SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD this year
which is voted on by all the teams in our division. While we had an incredible
season, you swimmers never failed to show respect to our competition and
win and
lose with grace. Our wonderful parents as well were
always willing to help out at meets whenever needed. I have to say
at Champs that wherever I turned I always seemed to find an SRA parent
busy at work, volunteering to make the meet run as smoothly as possible.
Everyone, parents and swimmers included, should feel honored to have
earned this award.
From the Pep Rally to Champs and the Banquet the past
week has been a great way to finish off what was an excellent
summer swim season! I'm already missing seeing all of you at the
pool everyday and will continue to miss you guys while I'm back at
school this year. All of the coaches would love to hear from you
so
PLEASE KEEP IN TOUCH AND LET US KNOW HOW THINGS ARE
GOING!!!
Thanks again everyone for a great season! I could not have asked for a better way to spend my summer and am so thankful to have been accepted into the SRA family this year!
STRENGTH AND HONOR STAY TOGETHER... AS ONE!

James Watson, Head Coach
James was a Valedictorian at The Collegiate School and will be a rising 3rd year at UVa. He was recently accepted to the McIntyre School of Commerce and will major in Commerce, with a little biology on the side! James was also a winner of the 2002 Michael J Stott Scholarship Award, given by the James River Aquatic Club to exceptional summer league swimmer/citizens.
An outstanding teacher of younger swimmers, James is well
grounded in all strokes and has a solid reputation as a motivator of young
people. We are pleased and excited to welcome James to SRA!
Tyler comes to us by way of Richmond Country Club, where she was a swimmer and served two years as an Assistant Coach under Jamie Greenwood, recently of CCV fame. A former NOVA swimmer and Collegiate School swim team Co-Captain, Tyler earned All American consideration her senior year at the State meet in a 400 free relay. At the State meet she also earned Top 16 times in backstroke and relays for four years, and was All State multiple times.
A graduate of The Collegiate School, Tyler will be a rising
2nd year at UVA. Since she lived in Puerto Rico and Mexico for 10
years and is fluent in Spanish, a Spanish major is no surprise. Hola,
Tyler!
Chris spent his winter as a co- captain of the St. Christopher's swim team, winners of both the Prep League and State titles for boys. Needless to say, he's still smiling! (Other SRA swimmers on the Saints' team were: Cap Young, Spencer Brown, Nat Southwick, Paul Ream and Charlie Major.) Chris will be working with SRA swimmers in the spring clinic.
Many of you have seen Mike Peters over the winter in his role as a Poseidon coach. He also worked with Mike Stott as an assistant coach at Collegiate, where the girls' team won the League of Independent Schools title and the State title as well.
