About Practice
Many parents worry about how summer camps and vacations will affect swim practice.
Please let the coaches know if your child will be away from practice for an extended time.
Though we always recommend regular age group practice attendance—it helps your child make
friends with teammates and become a better swimmer—we understand that situations arise
where flexibility helps. Please let us know if you have short-term conflicts.
Our coaches will be as flexible as possible and can arrange for your child to attend
another practice for a short time.

Do you have a New Swimmer?
To join the swim team, a child must be five years old and be able to
swim one length of the pool without assistance.  Children new to the team must
have an assessment session with a swim coach to be certain
that the child is ready for the practice environment.
Our 2008 Swim Assessment will be  held on
Sunday, May 18th, 3- 4pm at the St. Catherine's
Kenny Center pool.
(map and directions)
(See  # 4 here for pool location on St. Catherine's campus)
Our coaches will work with the children one on one to determine readiness.
If your child is unable to attend this session, please contact Laura Ferguson at
ferg5@mindspring.com to arrange another time during the first week
of practice--but remember that the St. Catherine's pool is heated, and
SRA can be a bit chilly for little ones that first week!

We ask that new swimmers not participate in practice until the coaches have had an
opportunity to meet and work with your child.
(Note: Swimmers who are new to SRA, but have been active swimmers
for another team, do not have to have an assessment.)

Age Group Designations
Age Group Name
5–8 Mites (please see below)
9–10 Midgets
11–12 Juniors
13–14 Intermediates
15–18* Seniors
* 18 year olds who turn 19 after June 1 may swim the entire 2007 season.

Mini Mites & Mighty Mites
A Mini Mite is a first-year swimmer, or any Mite, who is not yet ready to go to Mighty Mite practice. A Mighty Mite is an experienced Mite who is ready for the challenge of regular Mite practice. If you’re unsure which group is best for your child, please ask a coach.

Team Suits
We will have the same team suit as 2007.  Suits will be available at the Disco Sports
store on Starling Drive, and a Disco Sports rep will be at SRA on Thursday,
May 22nd, 4 - 6pm with suits available for purchase.
