Sarah Morck, Head Coach
This will be Sarah's 7th season
coaching at SRA and her third as Head Coach. She was a "lifer" on
the SRA swim team growing up - this is her 16th summer at SRA .
A graduate of The Collegiate
School and a senior at The College of William & Mary,
Sarah spent part of last summer
as an assistant at SRA and the other part studying in France.
"Fifi" is back and ready for
some fun!
Mike Peters, Assistant Coach
A native New Yorker and graduate
of Brown University, Mike is now enrolled in graduate school at NYU.
This will be his third season coaching at SRA. Mike also coached
at Collegiate and Poseidon in 2004, and brings a wealth of technical knowledge
from his years of competitive swimming in high school and college.
After a winter in NY, Mike is looking forward to returning to the sunny
"Hamptons" - upper and lower!
Chris Young, Assistant Coach
Another SRA product, Chris is
a senior at Saint Christopher's School and will be headed to Davidson College
in the fall. This is Chris' 3rd year as a coach and his 13th summer
at SRA. At Saint Chris, he was a two year co-captain of their boys'
swim team, which won state titles under his leadership both years.
Chris was also a member of the Richmond Racers team and hopes to
earn a spot on the Davidson swim team in the fall.
Tyler Gordon, Assistant Coach
Tyler is a graduate of The Collegiate
School and is finishing her second year at UVa. Tyler earned a spot
on the UVa swim team last fall as a walk on and has been working pretty
hard in the pool ever since. We are so proud of her! This is her
second year coaching at SRA. She had previously coached at Richmond
Country Club, and she also brings experience from US level swimming, high
school swimming and, now, college swimming.
Austin Bridgforth, Assistant
Coach
Austin is new to our staff this
year but has been a familiar face on the SRA team for many years.
She has worked in our spring clinics and has served as a volunteer helper
at mite practices in the summer. A member of the Richmond Racers swim team
for 6 years, she is currently a junior at Trinity Episcopal School, where
she is also a member of the swim and lacrosse teams.
SRA Trivia:
Sarah Morck joined the team when she was 7 and wanted to quit during the first week of practice because she didn't think she could do it -she thought she was "too old" since her friends had joined the team at age 5. As she sat in the parking lot crying in the car, her coach came out (at the urging of her meddling mother...) and convinced her to keep trying. And she did.
The first year Chris Young joined the team, he "dropped out" after 3 practices because he thought it was too hard. Due to a mistake in record keeping, we tried to give him a trophy at the awards program but his mother wouldn't let him keep it (another meddling mother...!). He reconsidered, and he's been collecting trophies every summer since!
Austin Bridgforth joined the team at age 7 and has never missed a meet. This record can be attributed to the efforts of her father, who one year drove her to Myrtle Beach for a vacation the day after a meet - so that she wouldn't miss the meet. Her parents also say her first year on the team, going to practice was a day to day effort - wondering every day if she would go!
So, as you can see, you just never know how things will turn out! Hang in there kids!
