SRA Adult Wellness Week

We’ve gathered some incredible talent to help our SRA adult members reach their full potential, mentally, physically, and financially.Topics covered over three evenings will be Good Nutrition for the Middle Years, Sound Retirement Decisions and Elder Care, and Mindfulness.

Tuesday, June 14, 7-8 pm.: Join Corinna Anderson, MS RDN to discuss how we can eat to support health in our middle years and Beyond. Corinna is a registered dietitian nutritionist with experience in research and clinical nutrition. She founded  Nutrition Options LLC in Fall of 2015 to deliver client-centered nutrition guidance for healthier living.

Wednesday, June 15, 7-8 p.m.: David Lynch and Joan Shifflett will discuss topics such as aging in place, finding a facility for senior family members, and working with elderly parents. We will also cover how to finance elder care and how the ‘sandwich generation’ copes with these additional financial burdens.

David is a CFP®, a Chartered Financial Consultant, a Chartered Life Underwriter and a Certified Advisor for SeniorLiving. I am available through FERN (the Financial Education Resources Network).

Joan is the owner of Always Best Care Senior Services located in Midlothian, Va., which provides two services to help our senior community – non-medical in-home care and free senior independent and assisted living placement.

Friday, June 17, 7-8 p.m. : Join Alex Peavey for an introduction to mindfulness-based stress reduction, where participants will learn about the foundational attitudes of mindfulness, experience mindful practices, and discuss ways to bring mindfulness into our every day moments for the sake of cultivating a healthy way of living.

Alex received his professional training in mindfulness-based stress reduction from Jon Kabat-Zinn, and he has been teaching mindfulness to students, faculty, and parents at Collegiate School for the past 8 years. Outside of Collegiate he works with individual athletes, teams, and businesses on the mindful approach to peak performance (www.the-mindful-way.com).
