
2009 Swim Team Coaching Staff
Our Head Coach, Mike Peters, will return to Southampton this summer for his seventh season. A native New Yorker and graduate of Brown University, Mike competed on a national level on the Brown swim team and has coached on the high school, college and US Swimming levels. Mike is currently living in Richmond. He has been working as an assistant coach for the State Championship Collegiate Swim team. Mike is also working on his teaching certification at the University of Richmond.
Austin Bridgforth is returning for her fifth season as an Assistant Coach with us. She swam for SRA for 12 summers, never missing a meet. She is finishing up her junior year at William and Mary where she is majoring in Kinesiology and preparing to apply to physical therapy school as well as playing on the Women's Ultimate Frisbee Team.
Cap Young is returning this year for his third season as an Assistant Coach. Cap swam for SRA for 13 years and is a junior at Duke University, where he swims for the university club team. Cap is studying English and Economics. He also works on the Duke newspaper, The Chronicle.
Alex Trivette returns as an Assistant Coach for us his third season. Like Austin and Cap, Alex has grown up in our program. Alex is a pre-med freshman at Georgetown University where he enjoys acting in school plays.
Paul Ream is a new addition to our wonderful coaching staff. Paul has also been with Southampton since he was a young swimmer. Paul is currently a freshman at Davidson where he is studying Political Science and plays club Ultimate Frisbee. He is looking forward to spending another great summer at Southampton in a new capacity!
Virginia Young and Anne Byrd Mahoney will be working together as Mite Coaches this year. Both Anne Byrd and Virginia have been with Southampton since they were mini mites.
Virginia is a rising senior at Maggie Walkers Governors School. She is the captain of the school field hockey team and also participates on the school's swim team. She is the coordinator for the Student Ambassadors and was a founder of the Global Citizen Corps at her school.
Anne Byrd is a senior at St. Catherine's School. She was captain of the swim team and also participated on the volleyball team. She will be attending Washington and Lee University in the fall.
