Publish the SRA Times, Ages TBD
Work with Caroline Kettlewell to design, do interviews for, write and edit a summer SRA newspaper. A regular contributor to The Washington Post and Virginia Living magazine and the author of several books, Caroline is also Sam Kettlewell-Sites’ mom. Participants should be genuinely curious about journalism and writing and should want to have fun exploring what is great about SRA and getting it down on paper. $15.

Craft Wednesdays at SRA
We are excited to offer a series of 12 fun art classes designed for independent kids ages 5 and up. (Children younger than 5 are welcome with accompanying adult.) The focus is on process, not product, but there will be plenty of goodies for the kids to take home. $5 per class; sign up for all 12 for only $55.
♣ June 9, 1:30–3 p.m.: Paper Art: Come for collage, mosaics, paper beading or shadow profiles.
♣ June 16, 1:30–3 p.m.: Music and Media: Paint to music, still life or rain/splatter.
♣ June 23, 2–3:30 p.m.: Weaving: Work with small looms, branch weaving and fabric weaving.
♣ June 30, 1:30–3 p.m.: Lanterns: Make paper, balloon and coffee can lanterns.
♣ July 7, 2–3:30 p.m.: Clay: Get your hands messy with goop, space glue, air-dry clay and Sculpey.
♣ July 14, 2–3:30 p.m.: Sculpture: Build with newspaper, marshmallow, plaster of Paris swordfish and bubble bird cage.
♣ July 21, 1:30–3 p.m.: Fabrications: Make a pillow, wind sock, banner, or mouse sunglass case.
♣ August 4, 1:30–3 p.m.: Cardboard: Build a cardboard city, a box guitar or recyclables.
♣ August 11, 1:30–3 p.m.: Wood: Make a sculpture, nail board or design board.
♣ August 18, 1:30–3 p.m.: Mobiles: Make a tree branch, butterfly, charm or gum drop mobile.
♣ August 25, 1:30–3 p.m.: Natural World: Explore leaf printing and rubbing, placemats, photography, or a twig or bamboo picture frame. (Cameras not provided.)
Origami, Ages 8--Adult
Karmalita Bawar again offers basic and intermediate instruction on how to make origami (the Japanese art of paper folding). Some beginning projects include simple animals, flowers, ornaments, Eastern designs, and last year’s favorite, paper airplanes. More advanced participants will be given independent projects to work on. As a bonus, Karmalita will provide Japanese treats for tasting. $5 per drop-in or $12 per week.
