Message from the President
Happy Spring, everyone! I couldn’t be more excited (maybe relieved is the better word!) to have the warm weather and blooming trees and flowers upon us. The familiar sounds of SRA adult and youth tennis and work/cleaning days, and the new sounds of Trinity tennis on our courts and Trinity softball over at Southampton Elementary have created a great buzz around the SRA neighborhood. Like me, I’m sure you all can’t wait to get into the summer rhythms of SRA. On that note, here are just some of the things going on around the property that may be of interest to you.
Repairs and improvements are being made to the pools, including the addition of beautiful wedding-cake-style concrete steps in the lower pool. Jay Bush, Beth Jones and their corps of volunteers continue to work their gardening magic on the grounds. We’ve broken ground in the construction of the new SRA sand volleyball court in what was the overgrown old basketball court at the corner of Chellowe and Marilea roads. We’re teeing up improvement projects for other parts of the facility, including the pool bathrooms/changing rooms.
All of these improvement efforts are being guided directly by the results of the 2010 survey conducted in February. Over 170 of you chose to make your voice heard. Whatever projects are voted on and approved, I am certain of one thing: SRA values and culture will remain at the center of those decisions. Those values echoed across the vast majority of survey responses. I’d like to share one response with you that speaks pretty well to the values we as a board are committed to upholding on your behalf. To the survey question regarding what you like most about SRA, one member summed up the responses of many when he wrote: “[It’s] a reflection of a simpler time. When I go to Southampton after a long day, I feel like I have gone back to my childhood. I immediately feel more relaxed and the problems of the day seem far away. I turn off my phone and step back in time.”
As the year unfurls, you’ll undoubtedly see some solid improvements around the property and to many of the services offered. We, as a board, will continue to keep the lines of communication open as larger investment decisions are made.
Have a great spring!
